Overview

This mini IPL device lets you do IPL (intense pulsed light) hair removal sessions at home, on your own schedule. It sends short flashes of light towards the hair, and you choose from 5 intensity levels to suit your skin and comfort.

IPL works best when there's a clear contrast between your hair and your skin. That means it isn't suitable for everyone: it's generally not for white, grey, red or light blonde hair, or for very dark skin tones. Please read the suitability guidance below and in the operation manual before you buy and before your first session.

Everything you need to get started is in the box: the device, safety glasses to protect your eyes, an adaptor, a shaver to prepare your skin and the operation manual.

Precautions

Read the user manual carefully before using the device. Never let the flash come into direct contact with your eyes, and take particular care around sensitive areas such as the cheekbones and upper lip. Never use it on or near your eyebrows or eyelids.

Safety & use

IPL uses bright pulses of light, so it needs to be used carefully. It's a cosmetic hair removal device, not a medical treatment.

Skin and hair suitability

  • IPL relies on the contrast between dark hair and lighter skin. It works best on dark blonde, brown and black hair.
  • It isn't suitable for white, grey, red or light blonde hair, because the light has too little pigment to work with.
  • It isn't suitable for very dark skin tones, because darker skin absorbs more of the light and has a higher risk of burns and changes in skin colour.
  • Don't use it on tanned or sunburnt skin, or after using fake tan. Wait until the tan has faded.

Patch test before every new area

  • Test a small patch on the lowest level and wait 24 hours before a full session.
  • Repeat the patch test whenever you try a new body area or a higher level, or after time in the sun.

Eye protection

  • Always wear the included safety glasses, and make sure anyone else in the room does not look at the flash.
  • Never flash towards your eyes, and never use it on or around your eyebrows, eyelids or the area around your eyes.

Do not use the device

  • Over tattoos, permanent make-up, moles, birthmarks, dark spots, freckle clusters, warts or any skin mark. Cover them or work around them.
  • On broken, irritated, infected or sunburnt skin, or on areas with active eczema, psoriasis or cold sores.
  • On the nipples, genitals or inside the bikini area. Use only on the outer bikini line.
  • Over metal implants, or on the face if you have recent fillers or injectables without checking with the practitioner.

Check with your GP first if

  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding. Don't use IPL during pregnancy.
  • You have epilepsy or are sensitive to flashing light.
  • You take medicine that makes your skin sensitive to light, including some antibiotics and acne medicines, or you've used retinoid skincare recently.
  • You have diabetes, a skin condition, a history of keloid scarring, or any condition that affects how your skin recovers.
  • You notice blistering, burning or changes in skin colour after a session. Stop using the device and seek advice.

Not for use by children or teenagers. Store the device and glasses out of their reach.

IPL hair removal on your schedule

IPL devices send short pulses of light that are drawn to the pigment in the hair. Doing your sessions at home means no appointments to book and no travelling, just a quiet moment when it suits you.

Many people use IPL as a way to spend less time shaving and waxing. How well it works depends on your hair colour, skin tone and how consistent you are, so results vary from person to person.

  • At-home sessionsFit them around your week instead of a salon diary.
  • Fewer razor daysMany people like spending less time shaving between sessions.
  • Less tuggingNo pulling hairs out, unlike waxing or epilating.

Comfortable sessions

Start gently and adjust as you go

Most people describe IPL as a warm flick or a light snapping feeling on the skin. How it feels depends on the area, your skin and the level you choose.

That's why there are 5 intensity levels. Start on the lowest, do a patch test, and only move up when you're sure your skin is happy. Sensitive areas often feel better on a lower level.

  • 5 levelsChoose the intensity that feels right for each area.
  • Shave firstA close shave with the included shaver makes sessions more comfortable.
  • Go slowlyWork one spot at a time without overlapping flashes.
Where to use it

Made for most body areas

The compact head is easy to move over larger areas and curves. Always keep well away from your eyes.

Legs and thighs

The largest areas. Work in rows from ankle to thigh so you don't miss or overlap spots.

Underarms

Shave closely and make sure there's no deodorant on your skin before you start.

Bikini line

Use on the outer bikini line only. Never on the genitals or inside the bikini area.

Arms

Easy to reach on your own. Start low, as the skin on the inner arm can be more sensitive.

Back and shoulders

Best with a little help from someone else, who should also avoid looking at the flash.

Lower face

Upper lip and chin only, with extra care. Never near the eyes, eyebrows or cheekbones.

Be patient

A routine you build up over time

Hair grows in cycles, and IPL only affects hair that's in its active growing phase. That's why it takes a series of sessions, spaced out as the manual recommends, rather than a single go.

Stick to the schedule, keep shaving between sessions instead of waxing or plucking, and give it time. Everyone's hair and skin are different, so how quickly you notice a change will vary.

  • Follow the scheduleSpace your sessions as set out in the operation manual.
  • Shave, don't waxWaxing and plucking remove the hair the light needs.
  • Stay consistentRegular sessions matter more than high settings.

Suitability

Check your skin and hair first

IPL needs contrast between your hair and your skin. It's generally suited to dark blonde, brown and black hair on light to medium skin tones.

It isn't suitable for white, grey, red or light blonde hair, which has too little pigment, or for very dark skin, which has a higher risk of burns and colour changes. Check the skin tone guidance in the operation manual before your first session, and if you're unsure, don't use it.

FAQ

Questions, answered

How does IPL hair removal work?
IPL (intense pulsed light) sends short flashes of light that are absorbed by the pigment in the hair. Because it relies on that pigment, it works best on darker hair against lighter skin. It's a cosmetic method of hair removal and results vary from person to person.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe a warm flick or a light snapping feeling. It varies with the area and the level you choose. Start on the lowest of the 5 levels, shave closely first, and only move up if your skin is comfortable. Stop if it ever feels like burning.
Is it suitable for my skin tone and hair colour?
IPL needs contrast between hair and skin. It generally suits dark blonde, brown and black hair on light to medium skin. It isn't suitable for white, grey, red or light blonde hair, or for very dark skin tones. Check the guidance in the operation manual, and don't use it if you're unsure.
How long until I notice a difference?
Hair grows in cycles, so IPL takes a series of sessions rather than one. How quickly you notice a change depends on your hair, skin and how consistently you follow the schedule in the manual. Everyone is different, so we can't promise a timeline or a permanent result.
Do I need to do a patch test?
Yes, every time you try a new area or a higher level. Flash a small patch on the lowest level and wait 24 hours. If your skin looks and feels normal, you can carry on. If you notice blistering, burning or colour changes, don't use the device and speak to your GP.
Can I use it on my face?
Only on the upper lip and chin, with extra care and a lower level. Never use it near your eyes, eyebrows, eyelids or cheekbones. Always wear the safety glasses, and avoid any moles or dark marks on your face.
Can I use it over tattoos or moles?
No. Tattoos, permanent make-up, moles, birthmarks and dark spots absorb the light strongly and can burn or change colour. Cover them with a white eyeliner pencil or plaster, or simply work around them. If a mole has changed, see your GP.
Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Please don't use IPL while pregnant, and check with your GP or midwife before using it while breastfeeding. Hormonal changes can also affect your skin and hair, so wait until you've had the all-clear.
Can I use it on the bikini area?
Yes, on the outer bikini line only. Never use it on the genitals, inside the bikini area or on the nipples. Shave the area first and start on a low level, as this skin can be more sensitive.
What's in the box?
You get the IPL device, safety glasses for protecting your eyes, an adaptor, a shaver and the operation manual. The device has 600,000 flashes in total and runs from the mains through the adaptor.
Can I go in the sun after a session?
Keep treated skin out of the sun and avoid sunbeds and fake tan around your sessions, as tanned skin is more likely to react. Use a high-SPF sunscreen on exposed areas, and wait until any tan has faded before your next session.
What should I do if my skin reacts?
A little redness that settles within a few hours is common. If you notice blisters, burning, swelling or changes in skin colour, stop using the device, cool the area and speak to your GP or pharmacist.
